Binge-eating disorder (BED) is characterized by regularly eating excessive amounts of food. The type of food, is often associated with a persons favourite food, eg, chocolate or crisps. The binge may continue, despite the person feeling full. Although individuals feel they are in control, shortly after the experience, feelings of extreme guilt appear. Binge - eating usually starts with a person giving up a food type or group ( ice cream ) in an attempt to lose weight but can only sustain this for a limited amount of time, say two or three days and then the bing-eating kicks in. This may affect a person’s overall physical health and may also interfere with an individual’s ability to function in a healthy manner on a day-to-day basis, as their sugar levels spike very high and then very low.
